Sunday, February 8, is the Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time on the Church’s calendar.
This Sunday is a reminder that everybody experiences suffering. When we unite our suffering to the suffering of Christ’s, that’s the beauty of it. There is no denying that we all face great suffering. Job faced suffering, Simon’s mother-in-law faced suffering. Jesus’ suffering was the grand daddy of all suffering. His suffering is the point of reference for all suffering. We are invited to unite all our suffering into the suffering of His. At Mass, we offer ourselves at the foot of the Cross. He will wipe away all suffering. When we unite our suffering to his, that is when we experience his redeeming power. United with Jesus suffering, at Mass, the priest says after Eucharistic Prayer, “through Him, with Him, in Him, in the unity of the holy Spirit, all glory and honor is Yours, Almighty Father, for ever and ever”. And all respond with a great AMEN. God promises to come to our rescue, healing us from our suffering through the great love He has for us.
Father Jim Chern reflects on the value of not placing our interest in the adulation and admiration of human beings.

…rich or poor don’t matter gotta suffer…
…ain’t just you fool
